Landing page or business card website: which to choose

Landing page or business card website: the difference, which fits a specialist or a local business, what each costs and how to combine them.

5 min readUpdated

Choose a landing page if you advertise one offer and visitors come from ads or a link you share. Choose a business card website if people find you through search, maps or recommendations and want to see who you are before they call.

The two cost about the same: a landing page from $200 to $500, a business card website from $250 to $600. So the choice is not about price. It is about where your clients come from and what they look for first.

Can you have both

Yes. A business card website can be your permanent address, and a separate landing page can be made for each advertising campaign. If you start with a landing page, the pages for services, about and contacts can be added next to it later: see landing page or multi-page website.

Common mistakes

  • A landing page as the only site of a specialist. Clients who found you through search or a recommendation look for experience, reviews and an address. A page built around one offer rarely has room for all of it.
  • A business card website as the destination for ads. A visitor sees a menu and several pages instead of the one offer they clicked on.
  • Choosing by price. The ranges overlap, so a landing page is not automatically the cheaper choice. Look at what you need the page to do.
  • Both at once, at the start. With one service and no advertising a business card website is enough, and if you advertise one offer, a landing page is. Add the second when you need it.

What to prepare

  • where your clients come from now: ads, search, maps, recommendations, Instagram;
  • your services, one line for each;
  • what clients ask before they order;
  • a logo, photos, reviews, contacts;
  • access to the domain, if you already have one;
  • examples of sites you like.

Frequently asked questions

Which is cheaper: a landing page or a business card website?

The guide ranges overlap: a landing page from $200 to $500, a business card website from $250 to $600. Where a site lands in its range depends on the number of pages and blocks, whether a design is ready, the languages and the integrations. More in the articles on the cost of a landing page and a business card website.

Do I need a business card website if I have Instagram?

Instagram helps people see your work, but you don't control it: the feed decides who sees a post, and an account can be restricted. A site stands on your own domain and is found when someone searches for your service. Use both: Instagram for live content, the site as the permanent address.

I build both: a landing page and a business card website, remotely, for clients anywhere. Fill in a short brief: a few questions about your offer and where your clients come from, and I'll say which type fits and come back with a price and a timeline.
