Landing page or corporate website: which to choose
Landing page or corporate website: the difference, which one a company needs, what each costs and how to use both together.
Choose a landing page if you promote one offer with ads. Choose a corporate website if the company itself is what people evaluate: several services, a team, case studies, news.
The price gap is large: a landing page from $200 to $500, a corporate website from $600 to $1,500. It follows from the job. A landing page leads a visitor from an ad to one action. A corporate website is read by clients, partners, investors and future employees, and it has to show the whole company.
The difference in short
| Landing page | Corporate website | |
|---|---|---|
| Who reads it | people who came from an ad or a link | clients, partners, investors, future employees |
| What it shows | one offer | the company: services, case studies, team, news |
| Pages | one | several sections |
| Updates | a new offer usually gets a new page | news and case studies added by your team in an editor |
| Guide price | from $200 to $500 | from $600 to $1,500 |
What a corporate website has that a landing page does not
- a section for each service or line of business;
- case studies that show completed work;
- team profiles;
- news or a blog;
- vacancies;
- an editor, so your managers can add news and case studies without a developer.
When a landing page is enough
- you promote one product, service or event;
- visitors come from ads and need one action;
- the company is new and has no case studies or team worth showing yet;
- you want to test demand before investing in a full site.
When you need a corporate website
- you have several services or lines of business, each needing its own page;
- you work with large clients for whom the site is part of building trust;
- clients, partners or candidates check the company before they get in touch;
- you update sections regularly: news, case studies, vacancies.
Using both
A company can have both. The corporate website is the permanent home, and a separate landing page is made for each campaign. The landing page takes the visitors from an ad and collects enquiries, and the corporate website shows the company to those who look further.
What makes the gap in price
The gap comes from the number of pages and sections, a unique design or a template, the languages, the content editor and integrations such as a CRM (a client database), analytics or a user account. The details are in the articles on the cost of a corporate website and a landing page.
Common mistakes
- A landing page as the only site of an established company. A company with a team, clients and finished projects has more to show than one offer, and partners and candidates look for it.
- A corporate website with empty sections. A news section with no news and case studies with no cases look worse than no section. Start with what you have, or start smaller with a business card website.
- Sending ad traffic to the corporate home page. A visitor sees the whole company instead of the offer they clicked on. A separate landing page works better for the campaign.
What to prepare
- who will read the site: clients, partners, candidates;
- the list of your services or lines of business;
- completed work you can show as case studies;
- the team: who is shown and how;
- whether you need other languages;
- who will keep news and case studies up to date;
- examples of sites you like.
With these answers, a developer can tell you which type fits and give a price.
Frequently asked questions
Is a landing page enough for a company?
It is enough for one offer. If clients, partners or candidates check the company before they get in touch, one page is rarely enough: they look for services, case studies and a team. A small company may be fine with a business card website: see landing page or business card website. A larger one, with sections and news, needs a corporate website.
Can I start with a landing page and build a corporate website later?
Yes. Keep the landing page at its address and build the sections next to it. If the structure is planned early, nothing has to be rebuilt. More in landing page or multi-page website.
How do I know that we are ready for a corporate website?
When you have more to show than one offer: several services, finished projects, a team, and someone to keep news and case studies up to date. If not, start smaller: a business card website can be extended into a corporate one if it is planned from the start.
I build both: a landing page and a corporate website, remotely, for clients anywhere. Fill in a short brief: a few questions about your company and who reads your site, and I'll say which type fits and come back with a price and a timeline.
